The Vila Galé Albacora hotel is the result of the rehabilitation of the former Arraial Ferreira Neto, where the 'people of the sea' linked to tuna fishing lived from March to September.
This hotel in Tavira, in the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, is, therefore, an architectural testimony to the way of life of fishermen and their families when the traditional "Almadrava" - a technique to capture tuna - was still used.
In the complex, the houses, workshops and warehouses gave way to 162 rooms with inspiring views of the estuary and the ocean. The previously existing chapel has been preserved and is now ready for hosting weddings and baptisms. The school was transformed into a children's club and the old bakery has become a free museum and open to the public.
It is here that you can see a mock-up illustrating the great engineering work that was the "almadrava", as well as centennial documents of the Algarve Fishing Company and a video that shows the process of catching tuna.
