As the second largest city in Portugal, there is a lot to see and do. Try the traditional francesinha that made Anthony Bourdain go gaga, and slurp down a Tawny port wine as you gaze out across the Douro river at the Dom Luís bridge.
Take a port wine tour, ride the Guindais funicular up the hill, explore the inside of the São Bento railway station, and pop into a show at the Rem Koolhaas-designed Casa da Musica.
